Volunteering is an amazing opportunity to get to know Palestine and gain a deep understanding of life in a refugee camp on the West Bank. It gives you a valuable change to contribute to the operations of a non-governmental organization, while travelling an unique region. 

 

There are many areas volunteers can contribute to and depending on your interests and skills we can together design a program that fits you!

 

Volunteers are hosted by the organization in the camp, and tours, excursion and Arabic language classes can be all part of the program.

If you are ready to apply, please fill in the application form linked below. It will allow Karama to get an idea of your interest and availability and consider if we have the opportunity to host you. We always aim to get back to you within 2 weeks for follow-up.

Set up an interview

Let’s e-meet to get to know each other a bit better and discuss our work, vision, your experiences and motivations and see how we can support each other. If all seems perfect, let’s agree and sign our volunteering agreement!

Book and Plan!

Next up we can start preparing your stay! Karama will share different prep-materials and we help with any logistics to arrive in Deheishe. Soon you will step into an adventure of a life-time.

What some of our volunteers have contributed over the years

Valuable Contributions

Over the years, local and international volunteers have been a driving force behind some of Karama’s most amazing achievements. We welcome new ideas for workshops, activities, and areas you would like to contribute to based on your experience. Some activities volunteers undertook are the following:

  • English and other language classes at different levels
  • Health sessions (mental health, physical health) for refugee women
  • Specific skills workshops for women
  • Sports, yoga and exercises classes
  • Summer camps for children
  • Handicraft workshops
  • Music workshops
  • Drama workshops, theatre and dance
  • Website or social media updates for Karama
  • Proposal writing or fundraising for specific projects

Diverse and Meaningful Tasks!

Our work is small-scale and individually discussed, so you do tasks you love and can directly see the results of your hard work.

Local Hosting!

Karama Organization will ensure you live inside the community you are serving either in a host family or apartment.

Optional Trips and Language classes!

To immerse yourself further into Palestine, we offer diverse trips with local tour guides as well as language classes. 

Prep-package!

Karama will provide you with an information package online before your trip, and offers prep-calls so you get all the support toprepare for the best trip yet of your life.

  • “After reading a lot about Palestine and the conflict, I wanted to go there myself to discover Palestinian life and to learn more about the situation. I choose Karama because of the philosophy on their website appealed to me (and the fact that it is a small-scale Palestinian NGO created by refugees – and not a big foreign-controlled INGO). Karama found me the most wonderful host family in Deheishe, they made my stay there incredibly unique and special, I will never forget them. In the first month of my stay at Karama, I did Spanish courses with a group of 9 to 10 teenagers and all sorts of games, handicrafts, and sports activities with both the younger and older children at Karama. That I really liked, because, in this way, I got to know all the children and create beautiful friendships with some of them.”
